B2B SEO Case Study: How We Took Aegotel from Hacked and Invisible to Full Tracking

In four weeks, Prox Digital Agency took B2B telecom company Aegotel Technology from a website buried under casino spam, with zero tracked leads, to a clean, measurable site. Its Ahrefs health score rose from 57 to 97, weekly Google impressions nearly doubled, and the first tracked leads from Google search arrived in October 2026. This B2B SEO case study shows what we found, what we fixed and what changed.

Imagine opening Google Search Console and discovering that 97.7% of the impressions your website earned over 16 months had nothing to do with your business. They belonged to online casino spam. That was the position Aegotel Technology was in when it joined Prox in mid-September 2026.

The Client: Specialist Expertise That Was Hard to Find Online

Aegotel sells technical, high-value services to buyers who research carefully. Those buyers search for exactly what Aegotel offers. However, the website was not showing them Aegotel. For a business like this, telecom SEO is less about volume and more about being found, and trusted, by the right few people, which is what makes it a useful B2B SEO case study.

Day One: What We Found

In January 2026, gambling spam had been injected into the site. The casino content had been removed, but the damage had not. Injected spam pages were still live on the site, with 40 of a 100-URL sample still returning live pages, and 1,003 spammy websites were linking to Aegotel with gambling keywords. Google’s spam policies treat this kind of hacked content as a serious problem for search quality.

However, the hack was only part of it. Underneath, the SEO foundations were missing:

  • Missing SEO plugin
  • No meta descriptions on any page
  • Broken page names, including hidden characters
  • A robots.txt pointing to the wrong sitemap

Then there was the problem that made everything else harder to see. From January to mid-September 2026, Google Analytics recorded 24,347 events, including 10 form starts, but zero form submissions, because no lead tracking had been set up. In addition, the contact page showed a placeholder phone number. Nobody could say what the website was producing, because nothing was being measured.

On top of that, security risks were still live: file-manager plugins, a suspicious server rule and leftover demo text.

Week One: Reading the Evidence Before Fixing Anything

The temptation with a hacked site is to start fixing immediately. Instead, we started by reading the evidence. First, we analysed 16 months of Search Console data, ran keyword research across four markets and reviewed the competition.

From that we built a service-by-region keyword map and a six-month roadmap, so every later fix had a clear purpose. It is the same research-first approach behind our keyword research services.

Cleaning Up the Spam Damage

Next came the spam footprint. We audited the spam backlinks and then disavowed them. Then we worked with Aegotel’s developer to remove the risky plugins, the suspicious server rule and the leftover demo content.

This stage also matters beyond tidiness. A site that looks compromised to Google, and to visitors, struggles to earn trust, however good the business behind it is.

Rebuilding the SEO Foundations

With the clean-up under way, we rebuilt what should have been there from the start.

On-page SEO on 118 pages. We installed an SEO plugin and wrote new titles and meta descriptions for 58 site pages and 60 blog posts. We also fixed 26 headings and aligned every page to Aegotel’s target regions. The site went from no meta descriptions to 118 pages with unique, keyword-targeted search listings. This is the core of our on-page SEO services.

Technical SEO. First, we fixed robots.txt and submitted a clean sitemap. Next, we hid more than 20 low-value page types from Google and removed 132 broken links, repairing redirecting and dead links along the way. Finally, we linked product pages that no other page pointed to, so Google and visitors could reach them. You can see how we approach this in our technical SEO work.

None of this is glamorous. Even so, all of it decides whether a search engine can understand and trust a website.

Making Every Enquiry Visible

This is the change we think matters most commercially. Contact form sends, phone clicks, email clicks and WhatsApp clicks now report to Google Analytics as leads.

Before, the site showed zero tracked enquiries. Now, by contrast, every contact action is tracked, so Aegotel can see which visits turn into conversations and judge SEO by leads rather than guesswork.

Why This Also Matters for AI Search

Buyers increasingly ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews to shortlist suppliers. In practice, those systems draw on pages they can crawl and trust. So when 97.7% of a site’s search footprint is casino spam, they get the wrong picture of the business.

Removing the spam, describing each service and region clearly, and making every product page reachable gives AI systems an accurate, crawlable account of what Aegotel does. These are the foundations our generative engine optimisation (GEO) work builds on, because a brand cannot be cited if it cannot first be understood.

Nothing Hidden, Nothing Irreversible

When a client hands over a hacked website, trust matters. So we logged every change with its before and after values and the steps to undo it. In total, 55 changes were recorded, which means Aegotel could approve each one and reverse any of them.

What the Journey Teaches

Three lessons stand out from this B2B SEO case study, and they apply well beyond telecom.

1. Diagnose first. A hack is a symptom of a wider picture. The missing SEO plugin, the absent meta descriptions and the misdirected robots.txt would have held the site back even without the spam.

2. Clean and build together. For example, removing the spam alone would have left Aegotel with a tidy site that still wasn’t telling Google what it sold. Equally, rebuilding alone would have left the damage in place.

3. Measure from the start. Eight months of zero tracked form submissions meant nobody could judge what the site was doing. In contrast, lead tracking turns SEO from an act of faith into something a finance director can read.

What Happens Next

Four weeks is a beginning. The six-month roadmap continues, and we will update this B2B SEO case study with visibility, traffic and lead results as it progresses. We expect the picture to keep changing, and we will share it honestly as it does.

Frequently Asked Questions About This B2B SEO Case Study

What caused Aegotel’s search problems?

In January 2026, gambling spam was injected into the Aegotel website. By mid-September, injected spam pages were still live, 1,003 spammy websites linked to Aegotel with gambling keywords, and 97.7% of the site’s Search Console impressions over 16 months came from casino spam searches. Underneath the hack, the site also had no SEO plugin, no meta descriptions, broken page names and a robots.txt pointing to the wrong sitemap.

How quickly did Aegotel’s website recover?

The clean-up and rebuild took four weeks. On 8 October 2026 the Ahrefs site health score rose from 57 to 97 out of 100, and weekly Google impressions nearly doubled between late September and mid-October. The first tracked leads from Google search followed in October.

Why does lead tracking matter for SEO?

Without lead tracking, nobody can tell whether search traffic turns into enquiries. Aegotel’s Google Analytics recorded zero form submissions from January to September 2026 because no tracking was set up. Once form sends, phone, email and WhatsApp clicks were tracked, SEO could be judged on leads rather than guesswork.

Does a hacked website affect AI search visibility?

Yes. AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews draw on pages they can crawl and trust. When most of a site’s search footprint is spam, those systems get the wrong picture of the business, so cleaning the index and clearly describing each service is the first step in generative engine optimisation (GEO).

Is Your Website Holding Back Your Business?

You may not have a hacked site. But if you can’t say how many leads your website produced last month, or what Google thinks your pages are about, some of Aegotel’s starting position may sound familiar.
